PHOTOGRAPHY SERIES

Collection of Digital Photograph series encompassing topics from archives, nostalgia, globalization, to identity.

Present Breath

Present Breath is a reflection of the small moments in time that are often overlooked, the moments that are with us everyday until they are not. This work is a response to archival photography of anthropologists of the past that dehumanize people through scrutinization of their physical traits. As westernized modernism and capitalism progressed, productivity became valued over health. These archives encourage connection to self and others through a profound commonality, breath.

Artifacts in a Carrier Bag

Artifacts in a Carrier Bag is a still life photography series that displays the nostalgic or essential items people carry with them. The Carrier Bag Theory of Human Evolution, coined by the anthropologist Elizabeth Fisher, argues that the first cultural device used by humans was probably a carrier bag. This contradicts the commonly assumed and glorified stereotype of humans as primarily hunters. This series emphasizes the behavior of collecting objects as a quintessentially human experience, connecting our modern everyday lives to our gathering ancestors of the distant past.

In the Sheets of "The Lovers"

In the Sheets of "The Lovers" is an exploration and expansion of the intimacy in René Migrette's surrealist paintings The Lovers, oil on canvas, 1928. The poses also resemble traditional greco-roman and renaissance sculptures which often depict intimate struggles, patriarchy, and rape. Like Migrette's lovers, this woman is veiled in a sheet. A juxtaposition between intimacy and separation creating tension and drama.

Concrete Below

Concrete Below explores views from above through digital photography and digital manipulation. These studies are intended to mimic Google Earth imaging. Views from above as mirrored in the mirco aspects of everyday life.
